It’s now official. The French court of appeals has issued an order to France2 to deliver the rushes to them by October 31 for viewing in court on November 14.
I’ll be there.
For those who read French, there are two major sites to consult in this affair.
Philippe Karsenty has collected a lot of material at his Media Ratings: L’affaire Al Dura
And Menahem Macina, a tireless and precise translator has excellent and up-to-date resources (including links to English articles) at his site Debriefing. This includes the single best cache of articles about the al Durah affair from December 2000!
Nidra Poller has just posted a piece at PJMedia.
What this will mean, in part, and at least potentially in substantial part, will depend upon the meaning invested in it. Anything good that will come of this, in any very substantial sense, will not occur simply because fate is intervening and players of note look on from the sidelines or play the absentminded fool on the playing field.
Pedantic and even quaint, yes, but oh so true.

I am not clear what your comment means.
I reiterate: a lot depends on (a) what rushes are submitted to the court (b) how will the rushes be interpreted.
My understanding from RL’s writings is that the rushes must be interpreted in some way and that a lot of care and analysis must be invested in that. I very much doubt if that will be possible in the court.
And even if the court comes to the correct interpretation, it won’t diminish the myth and it won’t stop further stagings.

You read too much into what was said; you read too little into it as well.

Michael B, do you mind if I don’t read ANYTHING into what you said? I lost interest, frankly.

Folks, we are all on the same side, remember?
It’s a complex subject with many ramifications, and different people are interested in different aspects of it. This is legitimate.
For myself, I’m less interested in the philosophical aspects (though I realize other people may, legitimately). I care about Karsenty, though I realize that French law is such that he stands little chance in court.
However, Enderlin shot himself in the foot with this lawsuit, because perhaps the material is out and, if not, more people are aware of RL’s additional material, and in any case other powers have started operating as a result. Once the material is out, Enderlin is in for untold lawsuits. Shurat Hadin have already started.
Enderlin is going to regret the day he decided to sue Karsenty.

Yea, ok.

Agreed, and apologies. Could be the biggest own-goal since Wilde took Queensbury to court for libel - let’s hope so.

anat,
right, but that’s precisely why we should be focused, clear, succinct and results oriented, with all due to respect to abstract thinking which, as a former academic, i have some appreciation of.
