Pallywood 2017: The meaning of the Becky Anderson-UNRWA gaffes

Those paying attention to matters of Pallywood, or the faking of news in order to target a given population with lethal narratives, had a double feast yesterday and today. First UNRWA, the UN agency for helping the Palestinian refugees, used a picture of a forlorn Syrian girl, living in ruins caused by the wars of rule and resistance in that part of the Arab political world, to relay a lethal narrative about Israel, all for the benefit of fundraising for the work of UNRWA.

Imagine being cut off from the world – for your whole life. That’s reality for children like Aya. The blockade of Gaza began when she was a baby, the occupation in the West Bank before her parents were born. Now she is eleven, and the blockade goes on.
Aya’s childhood memories are of conflict and hardship, walls she cannot escape, and the fear that the only home she knows, however tiny, could be gone when she returns from school.
This Ramadan, please help support children like Aya who have known nothing but conflict and hardship. Donate here:

Even those unaware of how much UNRWA employees are either Hamas agents or their dhimmis, can appreciate the moral degradation involved here. Appealing dishonestly to people’s pitying concern for Palestinians, by providing a heavy dollop of moral Schadenfreude about Israel, in order to raise money to prolong the victimization of Gazans.

The second case of Pallywood, by Becky Anderson and her CNN crew, was much worse. It illustrates precisely the “public secret” among journalists, so starkly revealed in the Enderlin affair, that while the public thinks they follow the rules, they both take staged stuff and help stage stuff, to make the points they wish to communicate to their audiences/consumers. This wasn’t some sleazy corner of the already sleazy “Human Rights” NGO’s hijacked for a radical (weaponized) agenda in the 1990s, this was a major news provider, a flagship of the journalism field of information professionals, those providers of accurate information upon which the modern world’s wonders are built.

Here we see Becky and her crew setting up a scene of Muslim protesters on the streets of London after the London Bridge attack. Here’s what it looks like at the hands of high-production values/low ethical values CNN producers:

They are background to her bravado so juvenile that she actually favorably plays Donald Trump [!] so she can nail in her contempt for these “losers.”

CNN of course, doubled down, denying that this was staging.

This story is nonsense. The group of demonstrators that was at the police cordon was being allowed through by officers so they could show their signs to the gathered media. The CNN crew along with other media present simply filmed them doing so.

We have all been here before.

It was this kind of discourse that inspired the name of my blog, The Augean Stables. The encrusted bullshit that has accumulated in the Western mainstream news media is so great, they don’t even know they’re doing anything wrong.

Proleptic Dhimmitude explains it all, alas.

The link between these two incidents is the progressive wormhole of proleptic dhimmitude. Dhimmi leaders must aggressively defend Muslims from any criticism within their own community. In this case of CNN, set up a scene of Muslim protest to whitewash a community in England where significant numbers – 20%? more? double? does Becky Anderson have any idea? – are silently or volubly celebrating these attacks among fellow Muslims. Her Pallywood moment is designed to illustrate – as so much Pallywood – the opposite of what’s happening. These folks are supposed to represent the “vast majority” of Muslims that everyone has been invoking since 9-11, starting with George Bush. Then she uses that dishonesty as background for her trash-talking the Jihadis in a playground rant: All’s well with us (including our Muslims). Stand down you nuts (not true Muslims).

Note the professionalism of the signs. They reappear at another Muslim demonstration against the terrorists, covered by AP.

This is perfect proleptic dhimmitude. Da’wa Caliphaters need infidel information professionals to misinform their consumers – what Becky refers to as the “viewers” – that they, the targets of the Caliphater cogwar of dominion, need not worry about the problem with Islam and Muslims that they face? The goal of cogwar: turn your own side into patriots, your enemies into pacifists.

Here Anderson pacifies her own audience, her “viewers” with (false/staged) “wonderful” images of good peaceful Muslims, designed to reassure them that, just like them, their fellow Muslim citizens feel the same revulsion against attacking civilian infidels that they do. Whatever you do, don’t replay a BBC Hardtalk interview after 7-7 that revealed that, for Caliphaters, as well as other hard-line (zealous) Muslims, infidels are, by definition, not innocent.

What more could a Da’wa Caliphater reasonably ask of enemy information professionals than this substitution of staged beneficence for relevant and accurate information that revealed their attitudes?

Which brings us to part two of the Pallywood drama of the last days. Apparently, it’s not enough to for our progressive elites, including journalists, to cover the tracks of Caliphater aggression in the West. In the case of UNRWA, western “progressives” actively adopt the Caliphater’s grand narrative in which Israel – an independent infidel state in the heart of Dar al Islam, is the incarnation of evil, of that which must be destroyed. In secular language it comes out Israel, the colonial, racist, occupying Goliath/Nazi oppressing the freedom-loving Palestinian people. In reality, those who adopt this narrative join with the most irredentist forces of Jihadi hostility to kufar, the keystone to their fight against the only progressive, civil society in the Muslim world, and a prelude (or climax) to their conquest of the rest of the world.

Muffle the sounds of Jihad. Magnify the sins of the infidel. Render Jihadi hatreds and violence towards infidels “understandable” as outrage at the misdeeds of the infidels.

Can one find a better job description for zealous proleptic dhimmis leaders urgently trying to quiet their communities so as not to offend the Caliphaters?

For those who want to believe that there are many Muslims who do not feel as the Caliphaters do and feel I am being unfair to the larger Muslim community, I only ask you two things:

1) acknowledge that there are Caliphaters who believe that Islam’s destiny to turn the entire world into Dar al Islam, will be fulfilled in our day.

2) ask yourself how many Muslims either fully share those expectations and work hard to bring them to fruition, or wish they were true, and encourage in many different but not high profile ways, the more zealous of the Umma.

Don’t answer question two too quickly. Think about it, despite the anxiety it will provoke. Take that anxiety as a mark of the tidal pull that proleptic dhimmitude has on your psyche.

In any universe of journalistic integrity, Enderlin would have lost his job 17 years ago – or at least over the course of the next 17 years. And Becky Anderson should lose her job yesterday. Don’t hold your breath. We live in a world where fakenews is a regular element of mainstream journalism.

  1. Lawrence Kohn says:

I recall watching John Chancellor reporting for NBC television news during the 1982 Lebanon War standing among the rubble of buildings destroyed during the earlier 1970s Lebanese Civil War and describing the scene as having been caused by Israeli forces in the 82 war.
